My daughter is just starting out with sewing and we grabbed a basic kit. She’s already asking about threads, scissors, and all the extras. As a mom who’s new to this too, I’d love to know what beginner accessories are worth adding. appreciate any suggestions!

Glad to hear that you're daughter's into sewing, @sunnyday! When I started out, the best extras were good fabric scissors, a seam ripper, and extra bobbins. Those three saved me a ton of frustration!

If you want to keep it simple, start with extra needles in different sizes, a magnetic pin dish, and tailor’s chalk. Those three things make sewing way less frustrating for beginners.

I’d recommend a self‑healing cutting mat and rotary cutter once she’s comfortable. They’re not essential on day one, but they make cutting straighter and faster, especially for clothing.

Honestly, the biggest upgrade is good pins or clips, they make fabric behave. Add a measuring tape and a small thread‑snip pair and she’ll feel like she leveled up instantly.

Fabric scissors, pins, measuring tape, seam ripper and an iron are the must haves. but it's also great to have some tailor chalks, tailor hams, and rotary cutter

In my opinion, one of the best things to buy her are these clips. They take the place of pins for holding pattern to fabric and can replace pins for 90% of her sewing tasks. I use these almost exclusively and love them. Long straight pins ( like the ones with glass heads or like these, excellent scissors, a good 24” ruler with non-stick back, a good iron and tailor’s chalk. Here’s a nifty little set I found on Amazon.
