Grading up a jacket

My daughter is heading to Europe for the winter semester and I thought to recreate her favorite jacket when she was still young as a gift. My daughter had this jacket when she was just 5 and it was sewn by my mom. I can't find the pattern right now so I don't know if grading up is even possible. Anyone knows maybe a resource for patterns I could check as a first step or any insights if you've already graded a jacket? Thanks!

That's a cool plan! Making a bigger version of a kid's jacket pattern is possible. If you're missing the old pattern, try tracing the jacket you have or find something similar online and tweak it.

You can find tutorials that walk you through changing sizes. Got the jacket to measure?

What a lovely gift idea! My aunt had some trouble with proportionality when she was grading a baby blanket up to an adult throw, so just keep that in mind. If you're trying to trace the original, check out vintage children's jacket patterns or find some pattern grading tutorials on YouTube for guidance.

True! From there, grading up to an adult size is definitely possible but can be tricky if youre new to it. There are some great tutorials and resources online like youtube about pattern grading that could help you adjust the size while keeping the shape right

That's such a thoughtful gift idea so special to recreate something with sentimental value! If you do end up sewing it in a warm fabric like wool or even cashmere, it could be both meaningful and super practical for a European winter. I'd check vintage pattern forums or Etsy for similar styles to start. Good luck!
