My curtains are crooked!

So I just tried sewing curtains for the first time. Let’s just say they have “personality.” Looking for tips on hemming straight and choosing fabric that doesn’t fight back. Any tips are welcome. Thanks!

I use a long ruler and chalk to mark the hem line before folding, then press it flat. For fabric, medium-weight cotton holds shape well and doesn’t stretch much. What kind of fabric did you use for your first try?

I have only ever made curtains twice before. I think the easiest hem was a dressmakers ruler/hemmer.....one that sits on the floor and you clamp it along the bottom at the same height. Made it pretty simple, but my seams were wonky and they looked terrible. So I buy them from now on, lol.

Make your curtains without hemming first. (You can pin them up temporarily).
Let them hang for about 2 weeks, then re-mark the hems (pin them up) while hanging in place, then take down and hem. This works especially well with draperies.
The fabric will "relax" while hanging (stretch out) and appear crooked later if hemmed right away.
From my experience anyway, especially when using heavy black out lining.
