I've been sewing since I was in the 6th grade, but I'm kinda disappointed with the quality of my hand sewing
I know that practice makes perfect, but I'd like recommendations on things I could practice with

my friend showed me a cool little fabric embroidery stitch book where one does the stitches on the flat, and then the pages are sewn together. then there's also an adorable stitch reference book
can anyone tell me a nonAmazon place to get this?

That's being advertised by some 3rd party on Facebook reels or YouTube.
You could make a book like that by yourself. Just look for hand stitches. And to sew most things you only need a few stitches. It's not like embroidery.

When I was an aide in Home Ec. Sewing we would cut 3 inch squares. Then we would sew a seam, and staple on paper. Next a double stitched seam. And made a hand stitched buttonhole, etc. We did use a straight stitch sewing machine, but basting and fine work was done by hand.
