Hey everyone,

Every December I find myself staring at my fabric stash like it’s a crystal ball. Last year I promised myself I’d finally finish that quilt top... and well, let’s just say it’s still folded neatly on the shelf. But that’s the fun of a new year, fresh projects, fresh motivation, and maybe even a few new fabrics sneaking their way into the collection.

For 2026, I’m dreaming about finally tackling garment construction (because my closet deserves some handmade love), experimenting with embroidery for those cozy details, and yes, giving that quilt another chance.

How about you? What’s on your sewing list for the year ahead? Share your plans, inspirations, and of course, those glorious fabric hauls. Let’s kick off the new year with a thread full of creativity and good vibes!

My 2026 plan is to finally sew a button‑up shirt for myself. I’ve stuck to tote bags and aprons until now, but I want to learn collars and cuffs. Picked up some plaid cotton that’s begging to be used.

I’m planning a “skills year,” starting with zipper practice because I keep avoiding patterns that use them. I also want to dip into hand embroidery for the first time. just little motifs on pockets or collars. Small wins keep the momentum going.

Your quilt sounds like mine.. eternally “almost done.” This year I’m focusing on stash‑busting projects like tote bags and pajama shorts. They use up odd yardage and make great gifts. If I get ambitious, I might try a simple linen dresspattern too.

I have been side-tracked the last few years (soapmaking/body product business that is too good). Am stepping away from the soaping end which is freeing up time. I will get back into garment construction and quilting. Sewing is a skill - I realize I will have to go slowly at first as skills don’t disappear but they do get stale😉

This thread is already buzzing with great energy. Something that helps a lot when returning to sewing (or leveling up) is setting aside a small weekly “practice block” even 20 minutes. It’s amazing how much smoother collars, zippers, or quilt seams feel when your hands get that regular rhythm again! Happy New Year, everyone!
