Hi! I'm new to this forum and I joined to look for help with a little sewing dilemma. I'm making Simplicity 1779 as a farewell gift, and I'm trying to get it done in time. The pattern has a sewn-on button band, and I'd love to simplify the process by swapping to a cut-on button band instead. Has anyone done this and can share some step-by-step instructions or point me to a reliable tutorial? The fabric is a fluid rayon crepe, so I'll need to be careful with it. I'll be using pearl snaps for the closure instead of buttons, so no buttonholes. Any guidance would be a huge help! Thanks for all your help!

Welcome! That's a really sweet gift. I changed a pattern to use a cut-on button band for a rayon top last year, and it made things easier. I added 1.25" to the front edge so I could fold it over twice. I used a little bit of interfacing and pressed gently so the fabric wouldn't stretch. Pearl snaps are a nice touch, just try them on a scrap first since rayon can be tricky. Threads Monthly has a simple guide if you want pictures. Hope you finish on time!

Extend the front by twice your desired finished band width plus the seam allowance, fold the edge in, then fold again to form the band and topstitch. It’s quick, clean, and perfect with pearl snaps

hi sassy, try to search for "How to convert a sewn on placket to a cut on placket" on YT or a big sewing blog (like Tilly and the Buttons or Closet Core Patterns).
The key is accurately extending your bodice piece by 2.5× the finished band width plus a seam allowance. And definitely use a lightweight, knit interfacing on that crepe
