Simplicity 1779 button plackets

I am in a huge rush to finish Simplicity 1779 made from some tricky rayon crepe fabric. I need a faster way to finish the shirt front. I want to save time by changing the sewn-on button plackets to a cut-on button band instead.

I know how to do this in theory, but with this deadline, I really need someone to share the quick steps. I could use a simple step-by-step guide so I do not waste any time figuring out the pattern alteration. What is the simplest math for adding the placket width to the front piece and folding it over? Should I just double the band width and add a seam allowance?

You absolutely can do this. The math is simple, just double your finished width + 1 seam allowance. it's a much cleaner finish for that slippery crepe too. interface it lightly and you'll fly through it! good luck with the 1779!

Yep, just add twice your finished band width plus the seam allowance to the center front, then fold the seam allowance in, then fold the whole thing back so the band width shows on the outside, press, and topstitch

hi @krelax since you're using tricky rayon crepe, make sure you apply a lightweight fusible interfacing to the entire placket area before you start folding! It will save your life by adding stability and preventing distortion
