Alteration advice needed

I've been eyeing this strapless romper I found online. it's so cute and perfect for an upcoming beach party. I usually wear a size S, but the bust area looks super tight, and I know it won't work for me as-is.

I'm thinking of ordering a size L just to get the bust to fit right, then having the waist and hips taken in. Has anyone tried this kind of fix before? Does it usually work out okay?

Yeah sizing up for the bust and tailoring the waist/hips can totally work, just make sure there's enough seam allowance for adjustments. Lots of people do this with rompers and dresses.

yep, done this kind of alteration before, and it's honestly a bit risky and pricey fix
usually it's always easier to take a garment in than to let it out, but a strapless romper is a tricky beast to alter.
the entire support structure is in the bust and torso. taking it from a size L down to a size S isn't just taking in a seam or two, it's essentially deconstructing and then rebuilding a good portion of the garment.
this kind of complex alteration can get really expensive, sometimes costing more than the romper itself.

I completely agree, changing a strapless romper from a large to a small isn't simply tailoring, it's more like a complete overhaul. The support is woven into the bust and torso, meaning you're working with the internal structure instead of just the seams. The cost of labor can quickly exceed the actual value of the garment. Unless it holds sentimental value or is a high-end piece, it's usually smarter to begin with the correct size.
