Hello from new member

Hello fellow members - just registered after seeing a rmention in soapmakers forum. Wouldn't call myself a sewer yet. Aside from upcycling some old velvet and other vintage fabrics into a couple of quilts my experience has been adjusting clothes for my 4ft 10in brother. I have bought a couple of patterns though that hopefully I'll get around to trying out in new year.
I'm 65 and live with/take care of my brother. Before the quilts I hadn't used a sewing machine or pattern since school sewing class - so will be an adventure! What I hope to achieve is to be able to replicate new pieces from our favourite clothes using what we have to make up patterns that will fit us from the get go. I'm big into recycling and buy most of my clothes/fabrics from charity shop.
Bought a 2nd hand Jaquar 2015df overlocker a couple of months ago and love it so sewing will be on that and oekakl sewing machine which I also love though it doesn't seem to have a tacking stitch option.
Anyway that's me and probably the most you'll hear from hear from me while I explore the forum and learn tips/advice etc.

Welcome! So glad you joined us. Upcycling vintage fabrics into quilts sounds lovely and adjusting clothes for your brother is such a thoughtful skill. When you're ready to dive into those patterns, feel free to post questions. we're always happy to help out. What kind of pieces are you hoping to replicate first?

Jogging style trousers for my brother first thing I want to replicate. He has a couple that fit well with a yolk at the back and look like a regular trouser until you get close enough to see the fabric. Fabric will be a learning curve in so far as what I need - something that doesn't pill but has a soft feel yet will hold it's shape. The nicest shaped/fit ones he has are polyester and cotton but they all pill and any all cotton ones so far have been a lighter weight with a knit/scratchy back. He also loves zipped side pockets and I'm thinking pockets and a zip will be tough to sew.
