Trouble sewing a neat seam on lightweight fabric

Hi,
I’m still quite new to sewing and I’m having some trouble with lightweight fabric. When I try to sew a simple seam, the fabric moves a bit and the line becomes slightly wavy. I changed the needle and adjusted the tension, but the result is still not very clean.

I’m not sure if the problem is my technique or the fabric itself. Any advice or simple tips would be very helpful. Thank you!

Have you tried the tissue paper trick? Place a piece of thin tissue paper (like the kind for gift bags) under the fabric while you sew

my advice is to use a sharp, fine needle (like 70/10), stabilize with tissue paper underneath, slow down, and watch the fabric's edge (not the needle) to guide it, plus consider lowering presser foot pressure or using a straight stitch plate for better control against wavy lines

These are great tips @Br4ndybuck thank you! I’ve been experimenting with lighter fabrics lately, so the tissue‑paper trick especially caught my eye. Do you usually just put it underneath, or do you ever sandwich the fabric for extra control? And I’m curious how often you tweak presser‑foot pressure when you switch fabrics.
