Jeans hack for a flattering fit?

I am thinking about making jeans, but I'm not a fan of back patch pockets, they draw attention to my bigger bum, has anyone tried adding pockets into the yoke seam instead? I wnat to know how it worked out and if it's a cleaner look.

Of course you can, it's a much cleaner look, but you'll need to be careful. Use a sturdy pocket lining to avoid sag, use bar tacks for reinforcement and add a curve to the opening for better access. I'd also recommend to use a heavier denim to make it easier for you.

You could try a welt pocket or a slit pocket. Most dress pants have welt pockets on the back. Slit pockets are usually on a seam, like a jacket has.
Take scraps from cutting out your jeans and make 1/2 a yoke and a partial seat piece and try it. You will need to do the (gold) top stitching of the yoke where the pocket is when constructing the pocket, then do the rest of the yoke top stitch later, when finishing the back.

I hadn't thought about adding a curve or using bar tacks, I'll try it with heavier denim and see how it holds up

That's a great idea, especially testing it out on scraps first, I hadn't considered welt or slit pockets, it might actually be perfect for the cleaner look I'm after

Yoke seam pockets can work but they're tricky to execute well, the curved seam makes pocket construction challenging. You'd need to interface the pocket bags carefully to prevent sagging. Consider side seam pockets or coin pockets instead, they're easier to sew and give you storage without affecting the silhouette.
