My name is Marla. I have been sewing for more years than I care to remember! My favorite items to sew are heirloom christening gowns and clothing for my 7-year-old. great-granddaughter who loves to "shop" in Granny's sewing room. Little does she know that I buy her fabric and bring it home so I don't have to deal with her love of animal prints, which I abhor! From little girls, I jump to the older girls, I love making prom dresses! I have had six exchange students over the years, two of them were young ladies, and I made their dresses and a dress for a friend of one of our students; a lovely girl whose dad was going to India and had strict instructions to bring home copper colored silk for her prom dress! I also made one for our very first exchange student's date. She also wore it to a formal dance at the U of WI, which ended up on the cover of one of the alumni magazines! I also made all three of my favorite adopted daughters' prom dresses; she lived next door and had a wonderful sense of style. I also made her and one of her sisters' wedding dresses. I have also made a few more wedding dresses, which are a lot of work, and I don't do them anymore!
Lastly, I make wearable art jackets, clothing for myself, and lounge pants for the men in my life. I don't like making men's clothing! Too much work!

Hi Marla, you sound like a great grandma. You were clever in bringing the fabric and letting the little one choose her fabric there.
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks, Alan. In reality, it is self-preservation LOL! I know the colors she likes and she is crazy about cats and dogs, so I am pretty safe in my choices, if I have questions I just send pictures and let her pick out what she likes in an email or over the phone. At seven she has a mind of her own and her mother was the same way and who am I to try and change anyone's mind, considering I am the same way!
