Question about altering a pattern

Hi. I would like to reduce the sleeve length by 50% on pattern Simplicity 9769 so that it is shorter than mid-bicep. More like barely a cap sleeve. The question I have is how to do it because of the gussets. Thank you in advance.

No need to worry about the lower gusset. Just draw your new hemline straight across the upper sleeve piece, then sew up the underarm seam like a regular short sleeve. Good luck!
