Roman Shades

Many years ago my sister-in-law took occasion to sew Roman shades for family, friends, a business or two, and volunteered to make some for me. I don't think I have a photo of them and they are long gone. They were perfection though.
She helped me pick out the fabric at a big fabric/textiles place north of Baltimore. Have no idea if it is still there, probably not.
A couple of years later I bought some lightweight cotton fabric and used it to make Roman shades for my baby's room. I was so tickled with how well they turned out! I don't know if I would make such things for kids' rooms again, you know, the safety hazard, but maybe for another room.
Have any of you made Roman shades?

I have made several of them. I HATE putting all those plastic rings on the backs of for them to string the cords through! But, they last forever, and I always lined mine with blackout fabric to keep the rooms darker in the mornings. My next adventure is making roller shades for two bedrooms, now, that will be a challenge! Am also making different valances for each window, another fun time with a Miter Saw, Scroll Saw or a Jigsaw.

Yes, my sister in law used black out liner on the ones she made. They worked well at blocking light, and you couldn't see through them from the outside either. I didn't mind the little rings. LOL

I've made them with black out fabric too. And have replaced the roller shade "fabric" with black out too. You can also use glue and adhere fabric to the blackout for the roller shade, but you may need to adjust the hardware at the top, since it will be thicker.

I usually use "Warm Window", insulated backing, for the Roman shades, still gotta use those stupid rings. Use metal (brass) ones, the plastic ones break.

I made a roman shade for my first sewing project, made it from a woven polyester. The liner fabric is a woven polyester as well ,with a twill weave.
